Maharashtra’s Innovative Insurance Plans Launched for Maha Kumbh Mela Travelers

As millions of devotees gather for the Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, Maharashtra has introduced an innovative insurance plan tailored specifically for attendees. Launched by PhonePe in partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance, this first-of-its-kind coverage aims to provide peace of mind and financial protection for travelers participating in the event, which runs from January 13 to February 26, 2025.

Comprehensive Coverage for Pilgrims

The insurance plan offers extensive coverage against various risks associated with travel and health emergencies during the Maha Kumbh Mela. It is available in two affordable variants:

• ₹59 per traveler for individuals traveling by train or bus.
• ₹99 per traveler for those opting for domestic flights.

This initiative recognizes the unique challenges faced by pilgrims attending such a massive event, where safety and health concerns are paramount.

Key Features of the Insurance Plan

The insurance plan includes several essential features designed to address the specific needs of travelers:

• Hospitalization Cover: Reimbursement of up to ₹50,000 for hospitalization due to illness or injury, with a deductible of ₹500.
• Outpatient Department (OPD) Cover: Coverage for doctor consultations up to ₹1,500, also with a deductible of ₹500.
• Personal Accident Cover: Up to ₹1,00,000 coverage for death or disability caused by accidents.
• Trip Cancellation: Reimbursement of up to ₹5,000 for non-refundable expenses if a trip is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances like medical emergencies or natural disasters.
• Loss of Baggage: Compensation of up to ₹5,000 for permanently lost checked-in baggage (applicable only for domestic flight travelers).
• Missed Flight Cover: Reimbursement of up to ₹5,000 if a connecting flight is missed due to delays in the previous flight (also applicable only for domestic flight travelers).
• Repatriation of Remains: Coverage of up to ₹10,000 to cover transportation costs in the unfortunate event of a death.

Easy Access and Enrollment

Devotees can easily avail themselves of this insurance coverage through the PhonePe app. To purchase the plan:

1. Navigate to the Insurance section on the PhonePe app and select “Maha Kumbh” Insurance.
2. Review product details and click on “Buy now.”
3. Choose a plan based on your mode of travel and enter member details.
4. Complete the payment process.

The plan will be available until February 25, 2025, ensuring that travelers have access to complete coverage throughout their journey and stay at the Maha Kumbh Mela.
